1. Don't smoke- Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher).

2. Don't eat fruits immediately -When you eat your fruits with meals, the fruit is stuck in the stomach along with the contents of the meals and cannot reach the intestines in time. Lying there they get spoilt and spoil the remaining food in the stomach too. Thus it is recommended that you eat a fruit at least one hour after eating a meal or before your meal and preferably in the morning with empty stomach. It is in the morning that the body can best use the nutrients in the fruit and get enough energy to start the day.

3. Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest.It is preferable to drink tea an hour after meals.

4. Don't loosen your belt -Fiction, not particularly bad for you!
We generally have an attitude that a good meal is that which forces us to loosen our belts. However, loosening the belt is bad, not because it causes the intestines to twist or block but because it means that you have over eaten to a level that you are uncomfortable. Loosening of the belt may also cause you to feel comfortable once again which means you may continue overeating.
So eat only to the extent that you can be comfortable without loosening your belt!

5. Don't bathe - Bathing after meal will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

6. Don't walk about -Fact, it is bad for you! Walking directly after meals is a bad idea, it can result to acid reflux and indigestion. However, walking about half an hour after meals is known to be good for you. Researchers in the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina, have found that walking after exercise is a good way to burn energy.

The point to note is when to walk, you should ideally walk for about 10 minutes and only 20-30 minutes after meal to prevent acid reflux and stomach upsets.

7. Don't sleep immediately - The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.

1. Wash and par boil the rice, add water and set on fire. Boil for 30 minutes until soft.

3. Boil and season your meat separately with onions, garlic and maggi.

4. Get a frying pan, add some little quantity of oil, steam, fry your onions then your tomatoes- stir fried. Add some stock, maggi cube, pepper, curry and fry until well dry.

5. Serve the food.

Boko Haram Kills Scores Of UTME Candidates In Borno

Scores of students travelling to write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Borno State have been reportedly killed by the Boko Haram sect on wednesday, 9th of April. They were among several persons that lost their lives in multiple attacks unleashed by the dreaded sect in four communities. A security source said that the insurgents laid ambush for a group of students who were on their way to Biu from Maiduguri to write Senior the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Examination scheduled for Saturday April, 2014.
It was learnt that the JAMB candidates were riding in eight vehicles were they ran into the insurgents ambush.

Strange Diseases You Did Not Know

1. Porphyria: This disorder is also called the "Vampires Disease" because people who suffer from it exhibit symptoms much like how vampires are usually portrayed in movies:

They suffer from oversensitivity to sunlight.

Garlic gives them severe abdominal pains.

Their gums recede giving them the appearance of fangs.

Porphyria occurs when there is a build-up of chemicals called porphyrins in the body as a result of disruption in the production of heme, which is an iron-rich component of the haemoglobin.

Porphyria cannot really be cured but can be managed by the regular supply of blood. But unlike vampires, they don't drink the blood but it gets into their body through transfusion.



2. Congenital Hypertrichosis: This is a very rare and peculiar syndrome, it is also called the "Human Werewolf Syndrome". It causes excess hair to grow on the body and those who suffer from it also experience Gingival Hyperplasia (tooth defects) which gives them the appearance of werewolves.

Only about 50 people in the world are known to have suffered from this syndrome.

3. Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis: It is also called the "Tree Bark Skin Disorder" and is a very rare disorder characterised by eruptions of wart-like lessions that may pop-up anywhere in the body.

This is a subtype of the Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV) and there is no known cure yet.

4. Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome: This particular syndrome makes children to look very old and elderly before they are even two years old. And this happens without any change in intellectual development or motor skill development.

They simply become elderly infants. Symptoms are as follows:

Prominent eyes, thin nose with beaked tip, protruding eyes, small chin and thin lips.

They also suffer from hair loss, aging skin, joint abnormalities e.g arthritis and enlarged skull.

Children who suffer from this syndrome usually don't live beyond their teenage years.

5. Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome: This is a very rare neurological (and maybe hormonal) condition. They suffer from persistent SEXUALe and genital arousal and they find themselves on the verge of squirting almost 24 hours everyday.

It is so distressful, embarassing and unnatural that people who suffer from it often turn to suicide for relief.

Scientists are still confused as to what might be the real cause of this embarassing condition.

6.  Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressive (FOP): It is also known as the "Living Statue Syndrome". It is one of the most painful and disabling conditions you can find.

It occurs when bones are formed in muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connecting tissues and these bones then develop across joints forming a second skeleton which also severely restricts even the simplest bodily movements. The person looks like a living statue.

It has no known effective treatment and injuries or surgeries sometimes makes it worse.

7. Alien Hand Syndrome: This is a rare condition in which one of the limbs (arms or legs) acts independently without the concious control of that person.

The left hand could suddenly slap a person or start unbuttoning the shirts or pants in public. The person has full sensation in the rogue hand or leg but is not in control of it's movement.

8. Congenital Insensitivity to Pain: This rare condition makes people to become totally insensitive to physical pain and they cannot feel anything when injured or when their tongues are touched by very hot food.

It is believed to be as a result of a mutation in the gene that controls pain-sensing neurons.

9. Eosinophilic Esophagitis is a very rare and very serious allergic/immune condition which causes an allergy to foods, not just particular kinds of foods but all foods. In some extreme cases even the scent of food is enough to cause hospitalisation.

It occurs with the inflamation of the aesophagus and certain white blood cells called "eosinophils"(not normally found in the oesophagus) appears.

10.  Micropsia: It is also called "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome" and it affects the human visual perception such that objects are perceived as substantially smaller than they really are.

In some cases the objects might appear both far away and extremely close at the same time. A dog may appear the size of a mouse, a house may appear the size of a small car.

Interestingly the eyes are not in any way impaired, the problem comes from the brain and how it interpretes information that comes from the eyes.

Minister Of Education Has Not resigned

The Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, yesterday, dismissed media report that he had resigned his appointment.The ministry in a statement by SpecialAssistant (Media) to the Supervising Minister of Education, Simeon Nwakaudu, in Abuja, said: “The report being circulated online to the effect that he has resigned is false in its entirety. It is a planted report by mischief makers.”The Minister, last Saturday, represented the President at the 43rd Convocation of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and yesterday (Monday), the Minister was in the office to do his work in the Federal Ministry of Education.”On Thursday, he will be performing the ground-breaking ceremony for the Special Vocational School in Delta State, and will next week hold a town hall meeting for federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education in Bauchi.”

Governors Partly Responsible For Boko Haram Menace

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday took a swipe at governors for accusing the Federal Government of bad leadership, asking them to stop pushing blames when they have failed on their part to provide primary and secondary education for their citizens.

Speaking in Bauchi during the North-east Zonal Rally of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Jonathan also lampooned some northern governors over insurgency in their states which he blamed on lack of education for the children and employment consequent upon which they are ready tools for terrorists.

Jonathan, who charged the governors to take charge and stop blaming their inept leadership on the Federal Government, however asked if the federal government, constitutionally responsible for the provision of tertiary education, should be in charge of primary and secondary education at the state level.

He said, “ Sometimes governors will come and say we have some issues because of bad leadership. I was governor, deputy governor before I became a governor. I spent eight years at the state level, I handled security challenges. That was the state where the first commercial kidnapping took place because of excess militancy.

More than 7 % of the state is swamp. I knew how we handled things. A governor will come and say bad leadership, bad leadership from whom? If we have security challenges, whether you call them Boko Haram or whatever, these are people who couldn't go to primary school, who couldn't go to secondary school and they have no hope and miscreants or criminals now recruit them and using them; if you see what they wear, they wear rags and not normal clothes; all what they put on their bodies is not worth N10, but they carry rifles and bullets that are worth more that N250,000. Somebody gives them food to eat so that they can kill.

”You ask how did we build this army of unemployed or unemployable youth? The Federal Government does not control primary education; it does not control secondary education, and a governor has been on seat for almost eight years and we have people in that state that can’t go to primary school, that can’t go to secondary school. You say bad leadership, who is the bad leader? Is it the Federal Government? I made sure that every state has a university. That is the responsibility of the Federal Government and I have done it.

Governors must make sure that our children go to primary school, governors must make sure that our children go to secondary school. Somebody hide under the cover of politics and cannot do it in eight years or seven years plus. We still have do many children in your state that cannot go to primary school, not going to secondary school and you open your mouth to say bad leadership; is it the Federal Government or Mr. President that should come and take your children to primary schools? Federal Government by the constitution faces tertiary education. “


Earlier in his remarks, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, who reiterated that aspirants must go to their wards, local governments and states to convince the people to vote for them, disclosed that all congresses in the 36 states and Abuja would be televised life for people to watch.

In his remarks, Vice President Namadi Sambo disclosed that all closed schools in the zone would be re-opened soon.
Also in his remarks, Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, Chief Tony Anenih, who noted that the Jonathan-led administration has done much for the North-east, said that one good turn must deserve another when the time comes.[

Minister Of Education, Nyesom Wike Resigns

Reports indicates that the minister of state and supervising minister of education, Nyesom Wike has submitted his letter of resignation to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sources reveal to The Paradigm that the minister’s resignation is to enable him pursue his ambition of becoming the next governor of Rivers State after the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.

The minister was said to have briefed the President of his intention to contest for the Rivers governorship election in 2015, to which he got the approval of the President to challenge the growing profile of the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

The resignation which is expected to take effect from April 1, 2014 has gotten the approval of the president.

But another source within the Villa, confirmed that Wike’s resignation will be announced next week Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Wike has been in running battle with Governor Amaechi, notorious for using the former Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, who is a very close ally of the President’s wife, Mrs Patience Jonathan, to attack the interest of the governor.

He was behind the group of five members of the House of Assembly who tried to impeach the Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, with another ally, Evans Bipi claiming to be the new speaker.

Ex-wife of popular movie director, producer and actor Tchidi Tchikere, Sophia (pictured left) has reacted to the statement released yesterday by actress Nuella Njubigbo.
Nuella claimed she only started dating the movie director after his marriage to Sophia packed up.

The claim has been rubbished by Sophia who said she didn't know about the impending wedding until she read it here. She also said she initially found the news hard to believe because she and Tchidi are not formally divorced.
Reacting to Nuella's comments that the affair with Tchidi only started after his marriage ended, Sophia said it was a lie, because Nuella started dating Chidi long before their marriage ended, and actually blamed Nuella for causing the end of her marriage that produced three boys.

"I swear with my life, my children's life and everything I have that Nuella started dating my husband before he left the marriage.
But because I respect my husband a lot, the father of my three boys, I have kept calm and won't talk and comment because there is no need to wash your dirty linen in public. Flamingos Crash Out Of FIFA U-17 World Cup

Nigeria lost 3-0 to Spain in the quarter final game of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup played at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano, Liberia on Friday morning.

A brace from Patri Guijarro plus one from Nahikari Garcia were all the Europeans needed to book a place in the semi final of the competition at the expense of Bala Nikyu’s side as the Nigerians once agains failed to make it past the quarters.

Nikyu's team were second best for most of the game and lacked the bite to open up the Spanish defence while the Europeans easily found space in the Nigerian area.

Jorge Vilda’s girls took the lead in the 14th minute from the penalty spot after Andrea Falcon was brought down by Ugochi Emenayo inside the area of the Flamingoes.

Garcia and Laura Dominguez were prevented from putting the Europeans ahead in the closing stages of the first half by goalkeeper Okeke who was by far the busier of the two shot-stoppers.

Spain continued their dominance on restart of the second half and got their reward when Garcia doubled her side's lead. Dominguez set her up with a sublime pass before holding off a Nigeria defender and beating the advancing goalkeeper.

Interior Minister Abba Moro Accepts Blame For NIS Tragedy

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro yesterday accepted blame for the poorly conducted immigration recruitment exercise that led to the death of 16 youths on March 15th. Mr Moro appeared before the Senate Committee on Interior Matters Panel instituted by the senate to investigate circumstances that led to the ill-fated exercise. While expressing his sympathy to those that died, Moro said as with most administrative exercises, the end result cannot be determined...

"Mr chairman and distinguished senators, we are deeply grieved and saddened by the way events turned out. We express our sincere regrets once again. However, permit me to state that our patriotic desire was the pursuit of a more honest, a more transparent, a more cost effective, a more efficient and equitable platform. We sincerely made appropriate and adequate preparations for a hitch -free exercise, but as most things in administrative and human conditions, the yield curve of expected outcome is mostly undefined .My heart goes out to the families of those who have lost their dear loved ones. I sincerely sympathize with those injured. I share in their grief. I share in their pains. 

May I, at this juncture, assure you, distinguished senators and Nigerians, of my respect for  the sanctity of human life. The loss of these young Nigerians, who are needed as a critical human resource factor for nation building is most regrettable. As the Minister of Interior, under whose purview this unfortunate exercise took place, I cannot abdicate my responsibility. The buck stops here.”

Also at the panel yesterday, the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mr. David Parradang told the committee members that he was sidelined by the Minister throughout the recruitment exercise and that he got wind of the exercise through a  newspaper advertorial. He said only N45million was released to the NIS for provision of test materials as against the the N201million released to the consulting firm, Drexel Technical Nigeria Limited. He said this caused a lot of logistic problems on the day of the test. 

Some of the Commanders of the NIS who headed the test in some other states said asides the serious logistic problems, influx of those who were not supposed to write the exam was also responsible for the stampede experienced on that day..

1. Identical Twins Do Not Have identical Fingerprints
You might think that because identical twins supposedly share almost the same DNA, they must also have identical fingerprints. Well, that's not true. Fingerprints are not solely generated based on DNA. When identical twins are conceived, they start out with the same fingerprints, but during weeks six through 13 of pregnancy, as the babies start to move, they each touch the amniotic sac, and unique ridges and lines are formed on each twin's hand that result in different fingerprints.

2. Massachusetts Has The Most Twin Births Of Any State In America
At nearly 4.5 for every 100 live births, Massachusetts has the highest rate of twin births. Connecticut and New Jersey follow with 4.2 twins per every 100 births. Researchers hypothesize that more multiple births occur in "affluent towns outside of Boston" because of a higher concentration of wealthier women who have pursued careers. These women are more likely to attempt to have children at a later age and seek reproductive assistance. The state with the lowest rate of twin births is New Mexico.

4. Mirror Image Identical Twins Have Reverse Asymmetric Features
About 25 percent of identical twins develop directly facing each other, meaning they become exact reflections of one another -- they may be right and left handed, have the same birthmarks on opposite sides of their bodies or have the same hair whorls that swirl in opposite directions. This occurs when the twins split from one fertilized egg more than a week after conception.

5. Identical Twins Do Not Always Have The Same Genetics
While identical twins derive from one fertilized egg that contains a single set of genetic instructions, also known as a genome, it's still possible for identical twins to have serious differences in their genetic makeup. Geneticist Carl Bruder of the University of Alabama at Birmingham closely studied the genomes of 19 sets of adult identical twins and found that in some sets, one twin's DNA differed in the number of copies of each gene it had. Normally, every person carries two copies of every gene, one inherited from each parent, but Bruder explains that there are "regions in the genome that deviate from that two-copy rule, [and] these regions can carry anywhere from zero to 14 copies of a gene."

6. Mothers of twins may live longer
A study published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B focused on the population of women in 1800s Utah and found that women who gave birth to twins were very strong and healthy to begin with, so were likely to live long lives. AsLiveScience writer Stephanie Pappas explains it, "Twins could be an evolutionary adaption in which healthy moms take the chance to pass on double their genes at once." However, because the data only includes women who conceived twins naturally -- IVF was obviously not used in the 1800s -- the findings are not definitive.

6. Tall Women Are More Likely To Have Twins
Gary Steinman, MD, PhD, an attending physician at Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center, discovered that taller women have more insulin-like growth factor (IGF), a protein that is released from the liver in response to a growth hormone that stimulates growth in the shaft of longer bones. Having higher levels of IGF results in increased sensitivity of the ovaries, thus increasing a woman's chance of ovulating. According to Steinman, the more IGF a woman has, the greater chance she has of becoming pregnant with twins, because IGF "govern[s] the rate of spontaneous twinning."

7. Also, Women Who Eat a Lot Of Dairy Are More Prone To Conceiving Twins
Another study done by Steinman and published in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine found that women who eat more dairy products may increase their chances of conceiving twins. Steinman tested this by comparing twin rates from vegan mothers and non-vegan mothers. Those who consumed dairy were five times more likely to have twins. This is because cows, like humans, also produce IGF in response to growth hormone and release it into their blood. Then it gets released into their milk, which women consume.

8. It's Possible That Twins Can Have Different Dads
In 2009, Mia Washington gave birth to twins who have different fathers -- which is said to be a one-in-a-million occurrence. Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University, explained to "Today" how it happened: Normally, a woman releases one egg each month. For Washington, there were two. At the same time, the mom had intercourse with two different men in the span of five days. Because sperm can remain alive in the reproductive tract for that long, each man's sperm fertilized one of eggs. Voila! Two babies, two dads.

9. Twins Interact With Each other In The Womb
In 2011, researchers at Umberto Castiello of the University of Padova in Italy studied 3D videos of twins in their mother's womb. At 14 weeks of gestation, twins were seen reaching for each other. By 18 weeks, they touched each other more often than they touched their own bodies. The researchers said that kinematic analyses of the recordings revealed that the twins made distinct gestures toward each other and were as gentle to the other twin's delicate eye area as they were when they touched their own.

10. Some conjoined twins can feel and taste what the other one does.

Susan Dominus wrote a piece for The New York Times about two conjoined twins, Krista and Tatiana Hogan, who are attached at the head through a "thalamic bridge,"part of the brain that acts as a sort of "neural switchboard" and filters most sensory input. Scientists have hypothesized that this connection could result in one Hogan sister being able to taste and feel what the other twin is experiencing and to understand each other's thoughts. Dominus, who spent a considerable amount of time with the twins for her story, recorded these amazing observations:
"[Their parents noticed] when one girl's vision was angled away from the television, she was laughing at the images flashing in front of her sister's eyes. The sensory exchange, [researchers] believe, extends to the girls' taste buds: Krista likes ketchup, and Tatiana does not, something the family discovered when Tatiana tried to scrape the condiment off her own tongue, even when she was not eating it."

11. Forty percent of twins invent their own languages.
These languages are called autonomous languages. Researchers suspect that twin babies use each other as models in developing language when an adult model language is frequently absent. The "language" consists of inverted words and onomatopoeic expressions. These autonomous languages are formed when two very close babies are learning how to speak a real language alongside one another and naturally often play and communicate with each other. While this is more common among twins, since they are more likely to be around each other and developing at the same rate, this phenomenon can also sporadically occur between two babies who are not twins. The made up "languages" often disappear soon after childhood, once the children have learned a real language.
