Democratic Republic Of Congo To Supply Electricity To Nigeria
The erratic supply of electricity to homes and business premises in the last two weeks is as a result of the drop in power generation by about 963 megawatts as a result of gas supply constraints.
The electricity generation, which was put at 3,463.40MW as of March 20, dropped to 2,500MW on Mondy.
The Board Chairman, Transmission Company of Nigeria, Mr. Ibrahim Waziri, who disclosed this to journalists on Monday on the sidelines of the investors’ conference organised by the firm in Abuja, said the worsening state of power supply in the last two weeks was as a result of the series of incidents that had bedevilled the sector lately.
He said, “Gas supply has dropped significantly in the last two weeks; in fact, it is exactly two weeks. That has resulted in reduced generation to about 2,500MW as of this (Monday) morning; we are back to square one. But we are addressing all these issues.
“Then, of course, we had accidents along the Benin-Sapele road and a lot of transmission lines collapsed due to fire incidents. These affected a very small area in that locality in terms of giving them power. But like I said earlier, these issues are being addressed.”
At the conference proper, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said the Federal Government was in bilateral and multilateral relationships with the governments of other countries for the importation and exportation of electricity.
Nebo, who was represented by the Minister of State for Power, Mr. Mohammed Wakili, told the investors that the country needed about $8bn to boost its power transmission infrastructure in the next five years.
He said the Federal Government had signed a Memorandum of Understating with the Democratic Republic of Congo to supply electricity to Nigeria.
Nebo said, “The government of Nigeria is in bilateral and multilateral relationships at various stages of advancement with other governments for the importation and exportation of power. For example, Nigeria has signed an MoU with the Democratic Republic of Congo for the importation of electricity from the Inga Dam Power Plant for both local consumption and export to other countries.
“The Inga is envisaged to exceed 40,000 megawatts on full exploitation. The TCN network spreads to all parts of the country and across the borders to some neighbouring countries to form part of the West African Power Pool.
“With the realisation of Inga and other initiatives, Nigeria will become a regional hub in international electricity trade, exporting large swathes of internally generated as well as imported power to the WAPP countries.”

Signs You’re With The Man You Should Marry
He's your biggest fan (arguably next to your mom).
1. He always brags about you. If you get a promotion at work or even just win concert tickets he can't resist telling everyone you hang out with before you even think to mention it. Because he's your biggest fan (arguably next to your mom).
2. He makes sacrifices for you — and you're happy to do the same for him. He'll move cities to live with you if you get a new job or finish grad school. You're happy to make the next move for one of his opportunities.
3. He shares the same values as you. You know you both want kids and expect to split the childcare equally. Or maybe you know you both want kids and he wants to take extended paternity leave. Maybe you've also agreed that you should each get 45 minutes to yourself to go to the gym every day or you plan to buy a home and move to the suburbs in five years. You know you're on the same page with things that matter most to you because you've discussed them.
4. Even after years together he still does little chivalrous things for you. Like open doors for you or carry you to your doorstep when your feet hurt after wearing high heels all day and you just can't bear to walk one more block.
5. He doesn't try to change you. He knows you're messier than him, that you always need a pet cat, and can't cook to save your life, and all of that is all right by him.
6. When you think about marrying him, the best part isn't the wedding, it's the idea of spending your lives together. The wedding is fun, but you really can't wait for the two weeks right after when you'll get uninterrupted honeymoon time.
7. You survived a long-distance relationship. It was hard and scary, but you love each other so much that you were able to make the necessary sacrifices to make it through with a singular goal in mind: living in the same place and being together when it was all over.
8. "I miss you" isn't just a sweet thing you say. It's a reality. Even if it hasn't been that long (like, two hours) since you saw each other.
9. You don’t like having a roommate and love having your own space, but you’d still prefer to live with him. You look forward to the end of the day, not because you’ll be done with work but because you’ll get to see him again.
10. He’s your go-to person whenever you have a story to share, about work, about friends, about anything. You used to tell your parents and friends about all these things, but now you don’t call them quite as much as you used to. They don’t mind because they see how happy you are.
11. You feel comfortable planning things six months — or a year — in the future. You’re not worried you’ll have to cancel plane tickets or say you won’t be needing a plus-one after all. You feel that confident in your relationship.
12. You can cry in front of him without feeling embarrassed. He knows when to worry and when you’re just caught up in a scene of a movie.
13. When your friends complain about their significant others or the guys they’ve gone out with, you get kind of quiet because you don’t have much to contribute. You don’t want to brag, but you just don't have to deal with any of that nonsense because your significant other is great to you.
14. He’s close with your family, and he’s made sure you’ve gotten to know his. He’ll call your dad or your grandma without any hesitation. It just makes sense that you’d go to his nephew’s birthday party, even if he's not there.
15. He cares about your friends. If one of them is having a bad day, he suggests you go spend time with her or invite her to join the two of you for dinner. If he hasn’t heard someone’s name in a while, he asks how she’s doing.
16. He lets you vent. Sometimes when something frustrates you, you just need to go over it again and again. He doesn’t get annoyed at this, and he dismisses your apologies. The only thing that bothers him about the situation is that you’re upset and he wishes you weren’t.
17. He tells you, out of the blue, that you look hot. And it’s on the day you didn’t dry your hair or put on makeup or even change out of your T-shirt and sweatpants.
18. You can do things like travel together without fighting all the time. We've all seen (or been) that tragic couple fighting over where to get lunch at the airport so badly that one of them devolves into tears and puts her shades on indoors and lies across three seats in the terminal. You can do tedious things with your S.O. without all this fighting.

Charly Boy Reveals Lady D Intimidated Him Into Marrying Her
Maverick musician and social crusader, Charles Oputa a.k.a Charly Boy, and his South American born wife, Diane, popularly known as Lady D, have remained an item after 35 years of marriage. And during a recent interview with Vanguard, Charly Boy revealed his wife had actually proposed to him, intimidated him into marrying her. Excerpt:
How I met my wife:
I met my wife in 1974/1975 in a hair saloon in Boston, USA. I went to do my hair there when I saw this beautiful lady with an overflowing hair. I admired her beauty and decided I was going to invite her to a party that never happened. She accepted my invitation and the party was just me and her in my limousine and I asked my driver to drive us round town. While we were cruising, we talked and that was how we started.
I didn’t know she was going to be my wife. I wanted to marry a Nigerian and not an American. But she was all over me, and when I wanted to return to Nigeria in 1980/1981, she bought her own ticket under the guise that she was coming to spend two weeks in Nigeria, only for her to end up spending six months. So, my parents were worried that she should go back to her country to give me chance to look for a wife. She was supposed to book for a ticket to return to America. One day, she woke up and said to me: “Marry me or I will never come back to Nigeria.” That was how I was intimidated into marrying her. I didn’t propose to her, rather she was the one who proposed to me. That ‘s why I said I was intimidated into marrying her.
35 years after:
It’s like a moving coaster. We have had our low as well as our high moments. Sometimes, it’s good, at other times, it’s averagely good. We have had our issues, but, above every other thing, I think we have great understanding and respect for each other; love and trust for each other. Also, we were willing to work out anything that will keep us together.

Food Addiction And What It Does To The Brain
Do you find yourself over eating those processed food coated with sugar, artificial preservatives and salt, oil all the time? Food addiction manifests itself in the uncontrollable craving for excess food that follows the ingestion of refined carbohydrates, primarily sugar and flour substances that are quickly metabolized and turned into sugar in the bloodstream.
If you have these problems, you might be suffering from food addiction. Palatable edibles or junk food are also the most energy dense foods, and prepared in such a way that human taste would prefer them. Regardless, preferring calorie dense food is one thing, however most compulsive over-eaters relationships with palatable foods go way beyond anything evolution had in mind. Studies have shown that palatable foods not only stimulate the appetite they stimulate the rate at which we eat them. The food you are addicted to can affect your brain and body .i.e the Homeostatic function, (calories in vs. calories out) regulates the metabolic consequences of food (energy, fat storage, weight loss), where as the reward function of food in the brain controls the pleasurable consequences eating. In addition, studies have shown that consuming palatable foods in tandem with weight gain, cause de-sensitization of the D2 dopamine receptors in the reward system in the brain. Certain hormones are released in the body each time we eat junk foods. The trigger our impulse nerves that it is the best making us eat more. That is why you feel like eating more junk food even when you are already full. In a healthy individual, the body is able to communicate effectively with the brain via hormones such as leptin, ghrelin, insulin and other informational substances. In the obese individual’s unhealthy body, converging reasons breach communication between the brain and the body. 1) Hypothalamic remodeling resulting from early life trauma compromises leptin receptors. 2) Elevated serum leptin levels from obesity and overeating damage the hypothalamus and resulting in leptin insensitivity. If you are eating too much processed food you are directly reducing your lifespan and reducing your immunity count. Processed foods further confuse the signalling mechanisms our brain. The result of this is you over feed your body because your brain believes you are starving. This usually leads to overeating like I already mentioned. The overeating problem that people with food addiction do is persistent, so a person addicted to food eats too much food — and often the wrong kinds of food is consumed regularly.
Doctors recommend that you slow that your eating routine and reduce the portion. Replace sugary foods with fibre and fruits. That is how you can help your body. Reduce the alcohol intakes and make sure you exercise thrice weekly. Go for medical check up yearly. Experts suggest you should stop eating after 6:00 p.m. and before 10:00 a.m. This has tremendous neurochemical and hormone signalling benefits. After several months of this, you will notice that the fat stores your body will begin to communicate their status your brain.
|
Food is awesome; you all love food; you need to eat and packaged, processed and refined foods tastes good. Processed foods are convenient; just stop at the grocery store and buy a. meal in a bag, run home and fill your family’s plates with addictive carbs and fats.
Refined and processed foods take the components of whole foods and modify them by taking out fiber, water and nutrients. Refined foods do have elements of whole foods, but these elements are concentrated which causes digestive problems. Eating refined and concentrated food will artificially stimulate dopamine or the pleasure neurotransmitter in the brain. You are eating foods that cause great and happy feelings and you want more. |
The brain is hardwired to seek out behaviors that release dopamine in the reward system. The problem with modern junk foods is that they can cause a reward that is way more powerful than anything we were ever exposed to in nature.
When the brain sees that the amount of dopamine is too high, it starts removing the dopamine receptors in order to keep things “balanced.” When you have fewer receptors, you need more dopamine to reach the same effect, which causes people to start eating more junk food to reach the same level of reward as before. This is called tolerance. If you have fewer dopamine receptors, then you will have very little dopamine activity and you will start to feel unhappy if you don’t get your junk food “fix.” This is called withdrawal. i see a lot of mothers in Nigeria; each time I travel by road-they way they eat as if they were just released from the prison. A woman will seat and eat three wraps of Okpa, egg, rice, big coke and then suya/Kirishi. Please NIGERIA women should learn how to respect and eat decently in public. Health is wealth. |
Obesity is serious problem. each time you hear that people dropped DEAD just like that - it must have been their Blood Pressure was high over the usual rate. Most people with over weight tend to have high blood pressure.

APC Likely To Pick Buhari As Presidential Candidate
APC settles for Buhari as presidential candidate
•Atiku, Tambuwal, Kwankwaso strategise
•Atiku, Tambuwal, Kwankwaso strategise
According to a report coming from the daily independent, the All Progressive Congress (APC) may have decided to settle for former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, as its presidential candidate in next year’s election.
Some of the notable leaders who spoke with Sunday Independent were of the opinion that a Buhari candidature would guarantee a lot of things, which include massive support from the Northwest and Northeast, because, according to them, most people in the North still see him as the messiah and would go out en masse to vote for him any day.
They also said Buhari is perhaps the only person that has qualities that are antithetical to anyone the PDP would bring forth.
This, according to them, would give the voters an alternative that would be favourable to the opposition party.
It was also gathered that the leaders are mindful of the effects a rancorous primary would have on the party and are doing everything to avoid it.
One of the leaders from the Middle Belt even said that Buhari is not only one of the leaders in the country who is not corrupt and have lived above board, he is also a unifying figure within the party.
The major headache of the party today, however, is how to conduct a credible and transparent primary in which Buhari will emerge the clear winner.
Sources said the party leadership is being very conscious that Nigerians are watching its nomination process, as a litmus test of whether or not the party will respect its own constitution and shame it’s traducers, is committed to a credible and transparent nomination process.
To this end, it was gathered that the leadership has urged all Buhari’s sympathisers within the party to redouble their efforts to ensure that he wins the Presidential ticket in a democratic manner.
“You can only envisage what would happen if the party failed to field Buhari. Remember that there are many people who joined the APC because of Buhari and they are ready to do everything for him.
“So, it’s something we have to manage very well. In fact, I can tell you emphatically that the unity of the party would be greatly affected if Buhari is not picked as our presidential candidate,” said the source, who craved anonymity because the party did not authorise him to speak on the matter.
Another party leader in a phone call from Abuja went out of his way to explain why the party would be better placed to field Buhari.
He said the leaders were well aware of the tag of a serial presidential loser placed on Buhari due to his inability to win previous elections, adding however that 2015 would be different, because of the increasing dynamics of the presidential race and the determination of APC leaders to forgo their personal interests to that of the party.
He said even though there are other presidential hopefuls in the party that are being speculated to have an ambition, like the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, and the Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, he however said that the party cannot afford to take a gamble in presenting an electable candidate that can defeat the PDP.
His words: “With Buhari, we are already sure of 16 million votes; and if you look at the current spread of our party’s configuration in the country, we are going to do well in the Northwest, Northeast, North-central and very well in the Southwest.
“The only problem we are likely to have is the Southeast. The Southsouth is going to be keenly contested because of the twin-factors of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and the Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who are top contenders for the Vice-Presidency.
“Apart from this, don’t forget that Buhari has cult followership in the North and that he lost many of states in 2011 because he did not manage the nomination process of the candidates well.
“This time around, the APC is ready to exploit these advantages in our bid to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan.”
However, this implicit endorsement of the 71-year-old former Head of State by the APC leaders has not stopped former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, Speaker Tambuwal and Governor Kwankwaso from strategising for the plum job and animating their structures.
It was gathered that even though they might not openly challenge Buhari if he decided to contest, they are not however unmindful of eventualities that could prop up their candidature before the primaries.
Sources within the party said the three contenders have formed committees and have been holding series of meeting across the country for an eventual entrance into the presidential race.
Meanwhile, substantive National Leaders of the APC are to emerge at the National Convention of the party slated for May 24.
The convention will be preceded by Ward Congresses on April 5, Local Government Congresses on April 12l and State Congresses on April 23.
The party will also not adopt zoning formula in deciding the occupiers of the offices, preferring however, to leave it open and allow people who are interested in any particular position vie for it.

The Richest Countries In The World
Exchange rates alone can not be used to determine how rich a country is. The cost of living, standard of living, inflation rates and other figures include saving such as national wealth (not just income) and populations are additional indices of determining the wealth of a nation. The most commonly accepted method of determining the wealth of countries and comparing generalized differences in living standards on a whole between nations is to use GDP per capita on a purchasing power parity (PPP) basis in current international dollars. If only GDP is used, those factors were surely not taken into consideration.
In a lay man understanding, it means a country where you can enjoy highest standard of living per person. Some country have very less GDP in-spite of large population, on the other hand some have high GDP in spite of the small population. The Richest Countries In The World In Numbers 1.
